University of the West of Scotland (UWS) graduate Grace Nicoll has been announced as the new host of the weekend afternoon show for Heart Scotland radio.

Posting on social media, she said: “I am so buzzed to let you all know that I am taking over Heart Scotland Weekends! I’ll be getting you excited for the weekend and soundtracking your Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm.”

BA (Hons) Broadcast Production graduate Grace told the University: “I am really excited to take on my position at Heart Scotland, it’s something I never thought would ever happen to me, it was always a nice thought but now it’s finally happening.”

Grace who graduated from the University’s Ayr Campus in 2014 remembers her time at UWS fondly, “Studying at UWS helped me gain the key skills I needed to be a presenter and I was always encouraged to push myself creatively. I created my demos in the studios of UWS radio and used my show on the station to endlessly practise.

I remember Paul Tucker and Chris Gilgallon encouraging us to seek work experience where we could and that the commercial station West FM was ‘just across the road’. So I did exactly that, that day and joined West FM street team. Before you know it I started as a travel presenter and then on to present the shows I do now.”

A continuity presenter for Channel 4 and E4, Grace also creates content for the BBC Scotland Social and manages to fit time in to host a podcast ‘Chit Chat And Aw That’ with fellow UWS alumna Daniella Gualtieri.

Grace commented: “I have so many great connections from my university days who I still see to this day from my classmates to guest speaker Jeff Zycinski they play a key part in my journey.”
