UWS Graduate Appointed New Chief Operating Officer to Lead Sisk in UK
John Sisk & Son has recently appointed University of the West of Scotland (UWS) graduate Ajaz Shafi as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of its business in the UK.
Ajaz, who graduated from the then Paisley College of Technology (now UWS) in 1989 with a BEng Civil Engineering, has over 30 years’ experience working for major contracting organisations in the UK, Hong Kong, India and the Middle East delivering a range of challenging and complex infrastructure and building projects.
Commenting on his appointment in April Ajaz said: “I am delighted to be entrusted with this new role and look forward to successfully growing the business, working closely with our talented teams, excellent clients and trusted supply chain.”
John Sisk & Son Ltd is an innovative, international, engineering and construction company. Sisk’s business in the UK is spread across the country with regional hubs in the South in St Albans, Solihull in the Midlands and Warrington in the Northwest. The company also has a rail maintenance business based in Bristol and is active on a range of civil engineering projects.
Joining Sisk in 2013, Ajaz initially managed the company’s UAE division before taking up the position as Managing Director for the UK South business. Ajaz has been in this role for the last 6 years and driving the growth of that business in London, Birmingham, and the Ox-Cam arc, with some standout projects including the Royal Academy of Arts, various projects at Wembley Park for Quintain and the Mercian, Birmingham’s tallest residential tower (42 floors).
Speaking of time studying in Paisley, Ajaz recounted: “It was a really positive experience for me and the smaller class sizes made it a much better learning environment. Also, the sandwich degree course helped me enormously when I started as a graduate in the industry.”
Commenting on this appointment Paul Brown CEO said: “I am delighted to announce that Ajaz will take over the leadership of our business in the UK. I congratulate him on his appointment and look forward to continuing to work with him and his team as we grow our business in the UK in key regions and sectors.”
