5 News Reporter and Alumnus visits UWS Ayr Campus

Alan Jenkins, news reporter at 5 News and University of the West of Scotland (UWS) Broadcast Journalism graduate, recently visited UWS Ayr campus to speak to students and see the support and services on offer.

Alan also met up with Shona Wallace, his former lecturer for the MA Broadcast Production programme at UWS.

I had a great time visiting the Ayr Campus to see what’s changed, and talking about change, that’s exactly what it did for my life and set me on the career path I’m on today.

Alan began his broadcast journalism career as an intern at CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta. Following graduation from his postgraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2011, Alan joined STV, reporting on stories across Scotland.

During this time, he was recognised with a Journalist of the Year nomination at the Scottish LGBTI Awards. In 2016, he joined ITV Border, working as a political reporter and covering the impact of the Brexit vote in the south of Scotland and the 2017 snap election.

Alan has been based in Scotland since April 2019, reporting on all things Brexit, covering Scotland’s response to Covid 19 and followed the war on drug deaths north of the border for 5 News.
