Celtic appoint UWS Graduate Anton McElhone as Head of Sports Science

University of the West of Scotland (UWS) sport graduate Anton McElhone has been appointed as Head of Sports Science at Scottish football club Celtic.

The 41-year-old graduated from the Paisley Campus in 2004 following completion of the BSc (Hons) Sport Studies programme.

It was a pleasure to work alongside Anton at Tottenham Hotspur.

Anton began his career with Queens Park and then Hibernian before moving to Tottenham Hotspur where he worked as Fitness and Reconditioning Coach for over 10 years receiving a glowing reference from then first team coach Mauricio Pochettino who said of Anton: “He demonstrated a great commitment and disposition to the needs of the club, applying the totality of his skillset and expertise. We witnessed his capacity to conduct his work with individual players, as well as, to lead the whole squad, playing a crucial part in the development of the team. It was a pleasure to work alongside Anton at Tottenham Hotspur.”

Leaving Tottenham in 2018 Anton headed to the US to join former spurs goalkeeper Brad Friedel as Assistant Coach at New England Revolution in the MLS.

UEFA A Licence holder Anton joins Celtic from Greenock Morton where he was Interim Manager following a spell as Assistant Manager at Bradford City.
