UWS songwriting graduate releases her new album Growing Wild
University of the West of Scotland songwriting and performance graduate Yvonne Lyon has released her 10th studio album Growing Wild.
Yvonne has shared the stage with artists such as Beth Nielsen Chapman, Dougie MacLean, and Eddi Reader and has performed two live sessions with Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2.
Yvonne told the Greenock Telegraph: “I’ve been doing this for 20 years and I got to a place in my life where I thought ‘what am I doing?’
“I was having a lot of performance anxiety so I stopped and asked myself ‘why don’t I enjoy this any more? why is it so hard?’
“I went on a bit of a journey and this album is the culmination of that.”
Featuring twelve original tracks, Growing Wild is enhanced by a range of collaborators including co-writes with Beth Nielsen Chapman, Boo Hewerdine, Julie Lee and poet Stewart Henderson, and most noticeably a guest performance of Eddi Reader on the upbeat folk-infused Compass Hill.
Yvonne added: “I’ve just been sitting playing and getting back to what I love.
“I’ve formed so many friendships and relationships over the years and I’m reaping the benefits of that now. I wanted to pull all of these people in.”
Yvonne who completed her MA in songwriting and performance at UWS Ayr Campus in 2014, enjoys regular airplay on BBC Radio Scotland and is a Burnsong International Songwriting Competition winner.
