Creative computing graduate named Young Software Engineer of the Year 2019
UWS Computer Games Technology graduate, Stuart Adams has been awarded the Young Software Engineer of the Year 2019 Award at the ceremony hosted by ScotlandIS on 3rd October 2019 in Edinburgh.
Stuart, who graduated in July, won first prize for his innovative honours project, which was supervised by Dr Marco Gilardi and moderated by Dr Paul Keir, which is also the Programme Leader of the Computer Games Technologies Programme.
In his project Stuart described the mathematical theory behind modern photo-realistic rendering and contributed to the field of computer graphics by showing a simple, practical implementation of physically-based rendering. It tests the implementation against a leading commercial game engine to evaluate the physically-based approach and determine if the development efforts were successful.
Stuart competed against 12 other finalists, one from each of the Scottish universities. The judges considered Stuart’s project to be exceptional. As overall winner of the Young Software Engineer of the Year Award received a cheque for £2,500 from Sopra Steria, and a trophy from ScotlandIS.
