A super-gig featuring Scottish music scene stars is being lined up by University of the West of Scotland (UWS) graduate Paul McGeechan.

Starless, taking place on Saturday 4 June 2022, is the first solo project from former Love & Money keyboard player, Paul McGeechan, who graduated from the BSc Music Technology course in 2011.

Based on an album of the same name, the concert – at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall – will see Paul take to the stage with a string of exciting Scottish vocalists, including Karen Matheson, Emma Pollock, Grahame Skinner from Hipsway, and Chris Thomson of The Bathers.

Also a UWS lecturer, Paul has involved other UWS staff and students in all aspects of the event.

The support act is UWS lecturer Dr Jo Collinson Scott, who performs under the pseudonym Jo Mango, while Paul is managed by Commercial Music lecturer Clare Duffin.

Several UWS students are also involved, providing in-event support, such as filming, multi-track recording and liaising with artists.

Paul said: “All of the staff on the BA Commercial Music course are working within the industry, and it is important for us to use the connections we have to create opportunities for students.

“We pride ourselves on producing graduates who are more than ready to make an impact on the industry – and the real-world experience they gain along the way is pivotal to that.

Starless is a collaborative project, and will give our students the opportunities to work alongside and learn from well-known artists; allowing them to make contacts at a very high level in the Scottish music industry.”

UWS lecturer and Starless manager Clare Duffin added: “UWS has an incredibly vibrant music scene, with industry standard facilities, our own record label and students performing and gigging on the national stage.

“The ties our lecturers have with the music industry helps create opportunities for our students, and are a big reason as to why our Music courses consistently produce graduates who go on to enjoy very successful careers.”
