Sports Professionals in Action lunchtime webinars get underway
Join University of the West of Scotland (UWS) alumni and sports professionals at the top of their game at a new lunchtime webinar series to get an athletes’ perspective and insight into elite coaching.
Dr Hayley McEwan and Raleigh Gowrie in the School of Health and Life Sciences have put together a winning line-up for their new lunchtime webinar series designed to give students and staff an opportunity to hear from elite athletes and coaches, ask questions and enhance their knowledge of the sports coaching profession.
Speakers includes Shelley Kerr MBE Scotland Women’s Head Coach, graduates Kirsty Gilmour (Team GB Badminton), Martin Perry (Team GB Para Table Tennis), Kayleigh Haggo (world record holder RaceRunner), Julie Gordon (LTA level 5 masters club tennis coach) and Allan McManus (Head of Youth Development at St Mirren FC).
The first in the series is with Martin Perry on Wednesday 28 October at 12:00 – 13:00
Born without hands or the bottom part of his left leg, Martin played a number of sports at School in his native Paisley before being introduced to table tennis in 2011.
Currently ranked 19 in the world at Table Tennis Class 6, Martin is a 2 x European Team Champion, 2 x British Champion and USA Open Champion.
He started playing table tennis at the age of 17 thanks to help from Scottish Disability Sport and Drumchapel Table Tennis Club in Glasgow. Pursuing his love of sport, Martin completed the BSc Sport Development Degree programme at UWS Hamilton Campus, but has put his coaching on hold to concentrate on his playing career.
Following graduation in 2015 Martin moved to Sheffield to train full time with the British Para Table Tennis Performance Team.
